Debug is not defined even when running in Release mode

Despite the awful search facility on the forums I eventually found someone else who had this issue, it is misleading as it is the AjaxControlToolkit which causes the issue. The debug.assert statements in there are not conditional and they will not have another release until the 16th of Jan, so editing them out of the source does the trick.

The now famous thread in which Hoa offered the patched RC1 (http://forums.asp.net/thread/1498667.aspx) addresses this very issue as well as other bugs in the toolkit.

Fortunately the toolkit is open source
