deploying Atlas enabled application

Hi,

I've installed the latest final release of atlas ( not the new beta one) It's working on my development server, but when I deploy it I get this error.

Do I need to install any applications on the live server? Shouldn't this be taken care of by just deploying the application ?

Thanks,

mike123

Did you ever find a solution to this?

Copy those three DLL into your application's bin folder:

You can find them at C:\Program Files\MicrosoftASP.NET\ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX Extensions\v1.0.61025.
AJAXExtensionsToolbox.dll
System.Web.Extensions.dll
System.Web.Extensions.Design.dll

Deploy of Atlas Application

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to say congrats to the Atlas team on the December release, I'm just delving in now, but you couldn't have made it easier for me/us. You have certainly stripped the complexity out of the previous versoin.(I wasnt that keen on learning xml and finetuning my javascript)

The question that I have is:

I have an Atlas app that works fine in my development environment, but when I deploy it to test it on my network through IIS I get javascript errors "Object Required". I probably a case of not beeing able to see the forest through the trees here but is it something small that I have overlooked?

I look at the way that the page gets renderd and I can see that the Script manager is pointing to the debug version of atlas...do I need to point it to the release version?

any reply would be appreciated

Debugging script errors can be a little tricky. Does the script error come with a line number? If you find the location of the error in the script, it might help understanding what's going on. Or, if you can attach a script debugger to IE (e.g. Visual Studio works well), the debugger should point you straight to the error when it happens.

thanks,

David

Yeah I looked at the source and found that there is no correlation between the JavaScript Error line number and the ones in the Source of the page. (Line 1609). I will try turning on the visual studio debugger and see where that gets me. It seems to me that the problem lies with deploying the application using the visual studio. In my dev environment it works great. It just wont work on my localhost/appname/default.aspx (Keep in mind its the December release So there is no JavaScript or XML that I have used for my example, which is basically a textbox that filters a gridview in an atlas update panel. Nothing to it!!) . Thanks for the advice non the less I will check it out in the vs script debugger.
Cheers

I suggest you setup development on the deploying server

If everything works fine on your terminal then its a setup issue on thetarget server, check the target server is running tha latest .net 2environment and the site is properly deployed

either that or somethin gyou have over looked in your code

Here is the markup

<atlas:ScriptManagerID="ScriptManager1"EnablePartialRendering="true"runat="server"/>

<div>

<asp:LabelID="Label1"runat="server"Text="Type Here:"></asp:Label>

<asp:TextBoxID="TextBox1"runat="server"></asp:TextBox>

<atlas:UpdatePanelID="grdUpdate"runat="server">

<ContentTemplate>

<asp:GridViewID="GridView1"runat="server"AutoGenerateColumns="False"DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1"CellPadding="4"ForeColor="#333333"GridLines="None">

<Columns>

<asp:BoundFieldDataField="LastName"HeaderText="LastName"SortExpression="LastName"/>

<asp:BoundFieldDataField="FirstName"HeaderText="FirstName"SortExpression="FirstName"/>

<asp:BoundFieldDataField="Title"HeaderText="Title"SortExpression="Title"/>

<asp:BoundFieldDataField="BirthDate"HeaderText="BirthDate"SortExpression="BirthDate"/>

<asp:BoundFieldDataField="TitleOfCourtesy"HeaderText="TitleOfCourtesy"SortExpression="TitleOfCourtesy"/>

<asp:BoundFieldDataField="HomePhone"HeaderText="HomePhone"SortExpression="HomePhone"/>

</Columns>

<FooterStyleBackColor="#507CD1"Font-Bold="True"ForeColor="White"/>

<RowStyleBackColor="#EFF3FB"/>

<EditRowStyleBackColor="#2461BF"/>

<SelectedRowStyleBackColor="#D1DDF1"Font-Bold="True"ForeColor="#333333"/>

<PagerStyleBackColor="#2461BF"ForeColor="White"HorizontalAlign="Center"/>

<HeaderStyleBackColor="#507CD1"Font-Bold="True"ForeColor="White"/>

<AlternatingRowStyleBackColor="White"/>

</asp:GridView>

</ContentTemplate>

</atlas:UpdatePanel>

<asp:SqlDataSourceID="SqlDataSource1"runat="server"ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:NorthwindConnectionString %>"

SelectCommand="SELECT LastName, FirstName, Title, BirthDate, TitleOfCourtesy, HomePhone FROM Employees WHERE (LEFT (LastName, LEN(@.LastName)) LIKE '%' + @.LastName + '%') OR (@.LastName IS NULL)">

<SelectParameters>

<asp:ControlParameterControlID="TextBox1"DefaultValue=""Name="LastName"PropertyName="Text"Type="String"ConvertEmptyStringToNull="true"/>

</SelectParameters>

</asp:SqlDataSource>

</div>

Here is the code behind

ProtectedSub TextBox1_TextChanged(ByVal senderAsObject,ByVal eAs System.EventArgs)Handles TextBox1.TextChanged

IfMe.TextBox1.Text =""Then

Me.SqlDataSource1.SelectParameters("LastName").DefaultValue =""

Else

Me.SqlDataSource1.SelectParameters("LastName").DefaultValue =Me.TextBox1.Text

EndIf

Me.GridView1.DataBind()

EndSub

To Run this you will need to make a connection in your webconfig to the Northwind db.. Once its up and running in the dev environment. Type a letter in the textbox and press enter, list of employees with that name should apear.

This code works fine in my dev environment...but when I deploy the app in IIS on my dev box I get the javascript error. Can someone try it out and see if they get the same result..

December Release WebMethod problems

I have downloaded the December release and included all of the .js files and Atlas dll. But now the code that I wrote with the October release fails. The code is not complicated.

<%@dotnet.itags.org.PageLanguage="C#"AutoEventWireup="true"CodeFile="test2.aspx.cs"Inherits="test2" %>

<%@dotnet.itags.org.ImportNamespace="System.Web.Services" %>

<!DOCTYPEhtmlPUBLIC"-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN""http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

<htmlxmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

<headrunat="server">

<title>Web Method on Page</title>

<atlas:ScriptManagerID="ScriptManager1"runat="server"/>

<scripttype="text/C#"runat="server">

[WebMethod]

publicstring HelloWorld(string s)

{

Session["a"] ="a";

return"Hello '" + s +"'";

}

</script>

</head>

<body>

<formid="Form1"runat="server">

Enter your name:

<asp:TextBoxid="nameTextBox"runat="server"></asp:TextBox>

<buttonid="buttonGo"onclick="return OnbuttonGo_click()">GO</button>

</form>

<scripttype="text/javascript"language="JavaScript">

function OnbuttonGo_click()

{

//textbox string value passed as a param to the server method

PageMethods.HelloWorld(document.getElementById("nameTextBox").value, OnWebRequestComplete1);

returnfalse;

}

function OnWebRequestComplete1(result)

{

alert(result);

}

</script>

</body>

</html>

I always get the js following js errors 'Web in not defined'

When I view source I get the following, and ideas?

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

Enter your name:
<input name="nameTextBox" type="text" id="nameTextBox" class="textBox widthMedium" />
<button id="buttonGo" onclick="return OnbuttonGo_click()" >GO</button>

<script type="text/xml-script"><page xmlns:script="http://schemas.microsoft.com/xml-script/2005">
<components />
</page></script><script type="text/javascript">var PageMethods = new function() {
var cm=Web.Net.PageMethodRequest.createProxyMethod;
cm(this,"HelloWorld","s");
}

</script></form>

<script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript">
function OnbuttonGo_click()
{
//textbox string value passed as a param to the server method
//PageMethods.HelloWorld(document.getElementById("nameTextBox").value, OnWebRequestComplete1);
//return false;
}

function OnWebRequestComplete1(result)
{
alert(result);
}
</script>

</body>
</html>

Maybe you should write your web method in your code-behind file...

i have tried this code .

it's worked

I have actually tried putting my code in the code-behind and still get the error. I think the error is coming from the following line

var cm=Web.Net.PageMethodRequest.createProxyMethod

I did not create a new project, but instead have tried to upgrade my old project that used the October release.

Is there any documentation that outlines how to properly update your code from the October release to the December release? The way I figured out how to set up my project was to create an new web site and selected the AJAX template to find out where to put all the new .js files and how to set up my web.config.

I'm getting the same thing. I believe it's because of a "js" include that I'm missing. Let me know if you find the solution.

Here's how I did the includes (Inside a master page).

December release under Medium Trust

Hey,

I read on the forums somewhere that my medium trust problem is common for the december release. My ISP won't put me on high or full trust, so now I'm looking for alternatives. I was thinking about a custompolicy. Can anyone tell me what restriction exactly prevents the usage of Atlas? Perhaps I can get my ISP to make a custom policy for me.

Thanks in advance

Okey I found out what it is.

It's the configurationPermission. To allow it, copy the Medium trust policy file from your /frameworkversionno/CONFIG folder to rename it to something like web_AtlasPolicy.config.

Then add:

<SecurityClassName="ConfigurationPermission"Description="System.Configuration.ConfigurationPermission, System.Configuration, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"/>

And:

<IPermission

class="ConfigurationPermission"

version="1"

Unrestricted="true"

/>

Then go to your web.config file (I think it's machine.config for your host) and add this in system.web:

<securityPolicy>

<trustLevelname="Atlas"policyFile="path/web_AtlasPolicy.config"/>

</securityPolicy>

<trustlevel="Atlas"/>

I don't think your ISP will do this for you though, my ISP argues that if something isn't in Medium trust, it's unsafe so they won't change it. If anyone has a good argument on why my ISP should allow this please let me know. Good luck with yours.

December release and ListView control

Hello

I have played a little with the Atlas december release and was strongly confuced, when have not found ListView control...

Have you an ideas for better resolving the issues about showing the listed data?

Merry Christmas :)

The atlas: server side UI controls have been removed from the december release. You can find a quickstart that describes how to use the 'Atlas' listview using the client side programming model at:http://atlas.asp.net/quickstart/atlas/doc/data/default.aspx#listview

You can find the December TP change list summary at:http://weblogs.asp.net/atlas
